De facto and "sodomite relationships" are evil, according to an extremist Catholic group in New Zealand lobbying MPs over civil unions. Catholic Action issued a press release today threatening MPs with eternal damnation if they voted in favour of civil unions. "Any MP who votes for the 'Civil Union' Bill is diabolically disorientated," says the release. "Any MP who votes for the 'Civil Union' Bill is on the road to Hell for all eternity. Any MP who is cast into Hell will burn forever in an unquenchable fire." The group has about 300 members, who six years ago took out a full-page ad in the Dominion newspaper calling for all the country's bishops to be sacked over their allegedly soft stance on the Virgin in a Condom exhibition at Te Papa. Catholic Communications spokeswoman Lyndsay Freer says the group has no official sanction from the Catholic Church in New Zealand.
