Beyer and Tamaki face off on TV

Fri 18 Jun 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

In what could be one of New Zealand television's most fiery debates, transgender MP Georgina Beyer will face off against Destiny Church pastor Brian Tamaki in a studio panel discussion on civil unions. Both Beyer and Tamaki will feature on Willie Jackson's Eye To Eye programme on TV One, screening tomorrow at 9:30am and repeated that night at 10:35pm. Tamaki cited Beyer as an embodiment of the "spirit of perversion" taking over New Zealand society in a series of sermons broadcast on TV2 last year which were subject to a series of complaints upheld by the Broadcasting Standards Authority. He has also linked homosexuality with paedophilia and that it is a "a Satanic strategy to actually take out and pervert a whole nation".
