No gay media for Missy in NZ

Thu 10 Jun 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

The AIDS Foundation is $35,000 richer, thanks to a donation presented by visiting rap star Missy Elliott in an event the gay media were denied access to. The cheque came courtesy of New Zealand's MAC Viva Glam AIDS Fund, which raises money for AIDS causes through the sale of a range of cosmetics promoted by celebrities worldwide. Gay media were told there would be no interviews or photos with Missy Elliott, and were issued with a press release and one photo a full five days after the event. The press release and quotes from Missy Elliott, issued by MAC, make no mention of the dramatic resurgence of HIV in New Zealand or the necessity to renew and resource the fight against it.
