WGN gays criticise bishops' CU stance

Wellington GLBT group GAP has publicly criticised the nation's Catholic bishops for condemning the Civil Union Bill before it has even seen it or know what is in it. The bishops made public a letter sent to all MPs, which condemned the Bill. However GAP, a gay and lesbian business and professional association, says the letter contains a number of errors and assumptions, and bishops have a duty to inform themselves properly before they comment. In the statement criticising the bishops, GAP spokesman Antony Reed says: “In fact there will be two Bills, the Civil Union Bill statutes, to extend their provisions to cover civil unions
