Record fundraiser for GABA charity

Thu 11 Dec 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

Over $16,000 has been raised as part of the Gay Auckland Business Association (GABA) charity auction, held in Auckland last Sunday at the home of GABA patron and former mayor of Auckland Christine Fletcher. GABA President Richard James says this is the largest amount raised in the annual auction to date, surpassing last year's $13,000 take. Among the hotly-contested items were an autographed Elton John CD set unavailable in New Zealand, and dinner for two with MP Georgina Beyer in Wellington. Books, airfares, accomodation packages, bottles of wine and furniture were also up for grabs. The proceeds will go to the GABA Charitable Trust, which distributes funds to non-profit organisations offering services to the GLBT community. Recent recipients of funding include Rainbow Youth and the Pride Centre.
