Longtime celebrity gossip David Hartnell is to launch a new book of Hollywood trivia and celebrity birthdays next month over afternoon tea at Auckland's Carlton Hotel. The 59-year-old former makeup artist told Sunday News, for which he currently writes a gossip column, that he's survived for 30 years in showbiz because he's never nasty. “Good gossip is tongue in cheek,” he said. “This book is funny, happy trivia – it's not malicious.” Hartnell's column, printed on the facing page, this week included a story about the late country star Johnny Cash allegedly getting his wife's sister pregnant and the tragic abortion that apparently ensued. “I love it,” he said of being a gossip columnist. “If I get sick and tired of doing it I'll give up – but I don't think that will happen.” Tickets to the December 3rd launch are $39.95, with a copy of the $29.95 book included in the price of admission.
