Young men not Sturm's type

Tue 18 Nov 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

Alleged sex offender Philip David Sturm testified in court Monday that none of the four complainants who accuse him of drugging them for the purposes of sexual contact were his "cup of tea". The 48-year-old Auckland restauranteur says he was just being hospitable when the various complainants were offered drugs, asked back to his office, or given rides in his Porsche. He also denied the Crown's assertion that he “moved on” patrons at his Coast bar, giving them drugs and then having sex with them. Crown prosecutor Philip Hamlin asked Sturm if complainants enjoyed his hospitality, which included drugs and alcohol, "and just fell into sexual activity with you in your office?", to which Sturm replied: "That appears what has happened".
