Nelson Anglicans say no way to gays

Wed 8 Oct 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

Nelson is taking a stand – Anglicans there will not support homosexual leadership in the church. Canon Peter Carrell has reaffirmed this stance at the Blenheim synod, backing up August's statement from Bishop Derek Eaton saying that the diocese did not recognise the ordination of openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson in the United States. There are worldwide rumblings in the Anglican church over Robinson's ordination that some are suggesting could grow into a schism. Nearly three thousand Episcopal clergy and lay members are gathering in Dallas this week to vent their anger over what they see as the Church's “pro-gay agenda”.
