The opening of the murder trial for 52-year-old Tauranga man John Rogers has seen the court given extensive details about Rogers' penchant for frequenting public toilets looking for other men. Jurors in the Rotorua High Court yesterday were also given a graphic description of a local gay club that Rogers and his killer, who has been granted name suppression, had attended at separate times. Mr Rogers was involved in the "bog scene" where gay men "loitered" around public toilets looking for sex with other men, the court was told. Rogers was stabbed in the lower back with a knife that had a 20cm blade, and was discovered lying on the grass in the Hamilton Rd park at around 1am by police. He died from his injuries soon after being taken to Tauranga Hospital on 25 July last year.
