Barrymore's Kiwi retreat

Mon 22 Sep 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

Michael Barrymore may move to New Zealand after his latest failed attempt to be accepted again by the British public. He cancelled his West End stage show Kings Of Comedy after three nights following vicious critical pans in the British press. The same show had already toured New Zealand and Australia successfully earlier this year, and Barrymore's manager for the South Pacific and Asia, Gray Bartlett, says that he is “90 percent confident” that Barrymore will shift. "He's keen to do all kinds of things and there's plenty of people that are interested,” says Bartlett. "He can't really escape [the tabloids]. The reality is that he has moved on yet the press won't let him move on." Bartlett confirmed, however, that a show previously reported as being in development for TVNZ called My Kind Of Kiwis had been canned.
