Beyer's return to cabaret days

Thu 18 Sep 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

MP Georgina Beyer is to make a reunion appearance in her old cabaret troupe Bloomers at a special show in November. Bloomers was New Zealand's answer to Les Girls, performing on the Auckland nightclub circuit in the 1980's. Ms Beyer was not expecting a rigorous rehearsal period. "We'll just stand there and be stars and do our numbers,” she said. “It should be a bit like getting on a bike, but if you think I'm going to be doing what we did that many years ago, you've got another think coming." The show will include a troupe of five new (and younger) performers called the Jets, who would do the more “stenuous” numbers, says organiser Wayne Otter. The Bloomers girls would do some “less demanding” solo spots.
