HIV+ man escapes from institution

Mon 8 Sep 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

Former male prostitute Christopher Truscott has been fined for escaping for the sixth time from an institution he has been kept in for the last four years. Truscott, who is HIV+, was ordered to be detained under the Health Act in 1999 after repeatedly having unprotected sex with other men without disclosing his HIV status. Defence lawyer Bryan Green said Truscott had HIV and an intellectual disability "both of which are ongoing and unlikely to be resolved shortly...there was no police involvement and Truscott returned himself.” On other occasions, police have apprehended Truscott at the Hagley Park toilets, a notorious Christchurch cottaging locale.
