An Auckland woman yesterday told a parliamentary committee hearing submissions on the proposed Families Commission said that same sex families were a "ridiculous modern ideology" and should not be represented by the Commission. Louise Cave called for the removal of Tim Barnett from the committee, even though he is not on it. "He has no contribution to make to the Families Commission save the same sex reconstruction of the family," she said. Cave went on to say the Commission should deem "less than the ideal" any family outside the two-parent, married, heterosexual variety, and should be charged with upholding these families, who she said "pay for everything and get nothing".
