Lynley Hood, author of the controversial book on the Peter Ellis case A City Possessed, has been awarded a doctorate of literature by the University of Otago. Hood submitted four of her books for the doctorate, which were reviewed by examiners from New Zealand universities and overseas. Two of them said she could have been awarded the doctorate for the Ellis book alone. Although delighted to have her work recognised, Hood said she doubted this alone would boost the credibility of her campaign. “I guess it will help, but having the huge weight of legal support and also a whole raft of psychology professors saying the Government and courts have got it wrong and that there must be an inquiry, that's the really important thing. "There has never been a case in this country that has the weight of public, legal and scholarly opinion behind it that there is with this case."
