Dunne slams gay marriages

Wed 30 Jul 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

United Future leader Peter Dunne has truly nailed his colours to the mast in an opinion piece in the New Zealand Herald, in which he slams gay marriages, the gay-friendly Care of Children bill, and accuses the government of “pink-think”. "Society has progressed to a stage where we are tolerant of alternative lifestyles, as long as they remain private affairs,” says Dunne. In a statement which seems to ignore gay and lesbian voters, Dunne says “people” could quite rightly ask why the Civil Union bill is being introduced ahead of “measures that could have a demonstrable impact on their lives”. Dunne says that the government is prioritising “political correctness” over political reality, and that Labour wants to change the way New Zealanders think.
