Thu 4 May 2017 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

More than half of all same-sex couples coming to New Zealand from overseas to marry are from Australia.   471 overseas couples came to New Zealand last year to celebrate a wedding or civil union ceremony, with 58 per cent of these couples making their way across the ditch from Australia. Overseas same-sex couples coming to New Zealand to tie the knot make up half of all same-sex marriages and civil unions here. Population statistics senior manager Peter Dolan says, "A further 17 percent came from China.” The Marriage Amendment Act officially came into effect in August 2013, four months after it passed it’s final reading in Parliament.
