Activists protesting the treatment of gay men in Chechnya have been arrested in Russia. A young protester being detained by Russian Police. image: Dave Frenkel Painting their faces with fake blood and lying on the road, draped in rainbow and Chechen flags pretending to be dead, the protesters in St Petersburg were met by Police in full riot gear. Ten protesters were arrested and dragged into Police vans. A second group, calling for Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to be tried at the International Court of Justice, were also detained. It is reported that six prisons in Chechnya are known to hold and torturing gay men. Three men have allegedly been killed because of their sexuality in the region.
