53 men arrested in Nigeria for attending gay wedding

Police in Nigeria have arrested 53 young men who were celebrating a same-sex wedding.   Image credit: Today.ng Arrested in the northern city of Zaria, the young men, who are mostly students, were charged with “belonging to a gang of unlawful society”, conspiracy and unlawful assembly. Same-sex marriage is illegal in Nigeria, however many couples have informal ceremonies. The men pleaded not guilty and were granted bail and will appear again 8 May.
