Fa'afafine first for national radio network

Mon 7 Jul 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

Rising star and singer/songwriter Lindah E has made local history by becoming the first fa'afafine personality to have a regular segment on a nationwide radio network. Lindah started appearing last week on Niu FM's breakfast show, which is broadcast nationwide, weekdays at 8.20am in a humourous segment called “Around The World With Lindah E”. “I suggested having a fa'afafine host to Niu FM about a year ago, seeing as we are part of the culture, and I thought it would be a great first for them,” says Lindah. The segment involves Lindah phoning in each morning, and taking a tongue-in-cheek look at what's going on around the world, supposedly calling from a different country each day. Listener feedback so far has been very positive, from all age groups. “Being fa'afafine, I can get away with a lot more than the average presenter!” she laughs.
