he Destiny Church's party political offshoot, Destiny New Zealand, is to launch on Friday, promising to fill a “moral vacuum” in Parliament. Leader Richard Lewis said there is a great need for religious political parties, “(Then) we wouldn't see the type of government we have in place today that are making immoral decisions and making decisions that are going to have severe impact on our children." Observers are speculating that Destiny NZ will take votes away from the Christian-leaning United Future at the next election, but none of United Future's MPs were willing to comment on their new potential rivals today. Television evangelist Brian Tamaki is head pastor of the Destiny Church, infamous for his comments in 2000 that the rise of female leadership within NZ politics was the “devil's strategy".
