NPIP not marching in Pride Parade

Mon 20 Feb 2017 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

No Pride in Prisons will not be marching in this year’s Auckland Pride Festival.   The group had previously been unsure whether they would be participating in this year’s parade however have now revealed that they have made a decision and will not be marching. In January, NPIP spokesperson Emmy Rākete stated that the group would be making a decision after hearing news as to whether the Department of Corrections and Police would be marching. The Police will have a contingent of over 60 staff in the Parade this Saturday however Corrections have had their application denied and will not be marching as an organisation. It is unclear whether NPIP are planning to protest at this year’s Parade.
