Thu 2 Feb 2017 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

A trans woman has been found dead in eastern Brazil with head injuries police which have led police to suggest she was beaten to death. ***image1** Paola Oliveira, 30, was found dead on the side a busy highway. Police believe they have found the weapon used and have arrested a suspect but no other details have been released. Violence against glbti people is common in Brazil with activist groups saying on average at least one glbti person is killed there every day. They say trans people are the second-most endangered group, after gay men, and they know of 144 trans people killed in 2016. But say the real number is likely to be higher. Last month at least 25 lgbti people were killed in Brazil.
