Chelsea Manning is to be released from prison on May 17 following US President Barack Obama commuting her sentence. Manning has served seven years of a 35 year sentence, handed down after she released a vast amount of secret military information to Wikileaks, in 2010. The New York Times reports that the 120-day period before her release is part of a standard transition period for commutations. The time allows for organising things like suitable housing for a prisoner before their release.
