Kennedy arrested after defending gay friend

Sun 1 Jan 2017 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

One of the USA's famed Kennedy political family has been arrested for assault in an incident which apparently began earlier when a gay friend of Connor Kennedy was subject to anti-gay slurs by a small group of male night-clubbers. The incident happened an an Aspen venue after Kennedy, the grandson of Robert Kennedy who was brother of John F Kennedy and a political heavyweight in his own right, asked the men to apologise for calling his friend a fag. Apparently one of the men did apologise but the situation flared up and an hour later police arrived to see Kennedy punching one of the men. He was charged with disorderly conduct/fighting, a municipal offense treated as a misdemeanor. A Kennedy family lawyer released a statement saying “multiple witnesses to the incident have reported that two men assaulted Connor Kennedy after he rebuked them for directing a homophobic slur and threats to his close friend.” “Like any father, I don’t want to see my son fighting or involved with the police,” Kennedy's father, Robert F Kennedy Jnr, has said. “But on the other hand, I’m proud that he stands up to bullies.”
