Rainbow Christmas wreath sales benefit OUTLine

Sat 17 Dec 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Christmas cheer, gay pride, recycling and supporting the national OUTLine counseling service have been brought together in Christmas wreaths currently on sale through Auckland's Garnett Station cafe. Recycled milk bottle tops, broken beads and "other stray odds and ends" are assembled by artist Catherine Robertson to create rainbow-coloured Christmas wreaths and garlands celebrating pride and Christmas through up-cycling with $5 from each item sold given to OUTLine. Spending about an hour and a half on each one, Robertson says she uses her creative design knowledge from her shoe-design work in a “labour of love.” She sees OUTLine as “a great lifeline” and says as a small town kiwi herself she has personally connected with its ability to reach out to those in small communities. “Now more than ever” she says “we need to stand up against small minded ignorance”. The rainbow garlands are available for up to $20 at Garnet Station café, 85 Garnet Road, Westmere, Auckland until at least Christmas
