GP on 13 charges of indecently assaulting males

Thu 15 Dec 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The Christchurch doctor facing thirteen charges of indecently assaulting men over the age of 16 is Dr Rakesh Kumar Chawdhry. Chawdhry's name suppression lapsed overnight and has not been renewed. The police began investigating the GP after a patient complained that Chawdhry had been sexually inappropriate towards him during a consultation. According to the Medical Council his practising certificate expired earlier in the year, shortly after a police investigation began, so he is currently unable to work as a GP. The 62-year old GP, who practised in Riccarton at the time of the alleged offenses, is defending the charges and the case will be tried next year.
