$20k donated for Bartlett's treatment expenses

Fri 2 Dec 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Donations to help cover medical expenses incurred when an Auckland lesbian teacher suffered a fatal heart attack returning from visiting family and friends in Canada have reached almost $20,000. Carol Bartlett mentored many struggling glbti students during her career as an English teacher and worked with and supported a number of organisations promoting the welfare of glbti people. She did a master's thesis titled Are you a lesbian Miss? Being Lesbian, A barrier to employment in NZ secondary schools. Bartlet suffered the heart attack mid-air on her return flight from Canada with the aircraft diverted to Honolulu where she was in intensive care for three days before she died. Complications relating to her insurance policy mean a significant portion of her intensive care charges will not be covered. The Give A Little donation page set up by close friends of Bartlett has raised almost $20,000 and will remain open until March 31st.
