Police under fire for not linking deaths of gay men

Fri 25 Nov 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

UK police are coming under widespread criticism for not following up on concerns expressed to them that a serial killer of gay men might have been operating in northern London. The four gay men Stephen Port was convicted of murdering Stephen Port has been found guilty of overdosing four young gay men on date-rape drug GHB before raping them and leaving their bodies in public places. He hooked up with the men, all in their twenties, using increasingly out of date images of himself on the Grindr dating app and had been viewing extremely violent pornography on the internet. However, it is emerging that even before the four latest murders occurred a pathologist and a coroner had voiced concerns about other GHB-related deaths of gay men in the region. The police are now belatedly re-opening investigations into the deaths of almost sixty men in and around London over four years which may be linked to Port. And friends and family of the four men Port was convicted of killing say they voiced their concerns to police but were not taken seriously.
