Jailed dog owner due for release today

Wed 18 Jun 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

One of two men sent to prison after their dog attacked Auckland girl Carolina Anderson is due to be released from Mt Eden Prison today. Brian Hill received a ten-month sentence after pleading guilty to being one of the owners of the dog, but should be released today after serving two months, pending remission for good behaviour. His partner Thomas Owen is still serving the remainder of his sentence in a special wing at Mt Eden, after a beating on Saturday by other inmates that left him seriously injured. Carolina's father, John Anderson, held a press conference later that day, telling reporters that he didn't condone the attack, but that it was a “a natural consequence for the lack of remorse this guy's had all the way through the last five months”.
