The Westie Lesbian Ball has been canceled due to low ticket sales. Image thanks to Andrea The ball was due to be held at West Auckland’s Corban Estate Arts Centre on Saturday 26 November but will no longer go ahead. A decision to cancel to event comes following Friday’s plea from organiser Cissy Rock for women to make a commitment to buying a ticket before Sunday night. Rock said that 40 tickets were needed to be bought for the event to be viable. Rock says "Like Boy George in Christchurch I didn't feel the love and had to cancel. "Cancelling is disheartening, so many people really wanted it to happen but just not enough. It's horrible letting people down." Whether or not there will be another West Auckland-based lesbian ball in the future may depend on whether someone is willing to step up to organise as Rock says "I need to rethink my approach to events, I can't see myself doing a ball again however never says never. "Next up for me is Pride". Anyone who has bought tickets wll receive a full refund and can email lesbianball@gmail.com with their bank details for a transfer to be made.
