Gay dog attack man beaten in prison

Sun 15 Jun 2003 In: New Zealand Daily News

One of two gay men jailed over a dog attack on a little girl has been hospitalised after being beaten by inmates at Auckland's Mt Eden Prison. Thomas Henry Owen was assaulted by several prisoners at breakfast on his first day of imprisonment in an attack that is now being investigated by police. Owen's partner Brian Hill, also currently serving a prison sentence for the attack, is reportedly appalled at the attack on his partner, as is Owen's lawyer Peter Boylan, who at this stage is unsure if the assault was a result of gay bashing. Boylan says his client's injuries are serious, and that he does not want him to return to Mt Eden as the attack makes him an even bigger target.
