Pete Burns and Michael Simpson on their Civil Union day. Dead or Alive group singer Pete Burns, who has died of a heart attack, was for a time in a civil union partnership with a man. Burns, whose British band rose to prominence in the mid-1980s with the song You Spin Me Around (Like a Record) was married to Lynne Corlett for twenty five years before leaving her for Michael Simpson with whom he joined in a formal civil Union in 2007. The pair split a year later, although they reunited. In recent years Burns appeared on several reality TV series and increasingly adopted an androgynous persona. Simpson and Corlett jointly made the announcement of his death.
