The new Mr Gay Wellington has been crowned and is believed to be the first trans person to win a Mr Gay title in the country. Image: Indy Pendant (Facebook) 21-year-old Adrian Renor took out the title of Mr Gay Wellington during Sunday night’s competition at Ivy Bar and says that he entered the competition to show others that to be man, you don’t need to have been born with a penis. In a Facebook post about the win, Renor writes “I feel very privileged to have even been a part of this competition, and winning it wasn't something that I thought would happen. Maybe I'd place, but I never seriously thought I'd win. But I did. And I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed. “As far as I'm aware, I'm the first trans guy who has won in a Mr Gay competition in New Zealand. When I entered, I did so solely to stand on stage as a transgender man and show others that you do not have to have been born with a penis to be a man.”
