Auckland drag duo, the ‘Makeover Girls’ Buffy and Bimbo have announced they are retiring after 21 years of performing. Jonathan Smith whose alter-ego is Bimbo says “It has been the most fantastic experience with so many highlights including WOW in Nelson for 2 years, working with Sir Richard Taylor from Weta on Project Born x2, dancing with John Key at the BGO (the first drag queens to do so), so so many community events and corporate shows, Gay Ski Week in Queenstown, our own annual shows including 'In bed with Buffy and Bimbo', many performances with GALS, agony aunts on TV1 Good Morning, our own venue in Javea (Valencia), Spain and how can we forget QWU Queen of the Whole Universe for 10 years.” “Thanks to all our supporters, clients, drag sisters, Valerie Strawbridge our dress maker, Sarah Boocock our choreographer, Phoenix Cosmetics our makeup sponsor and finally Jonathan Smith and Kevin Baker our creators.”
