A measure of doubt is emerging over whether gay singer Boy George, due to perform in Christchurch and Auckland with Culture Club, will be allowed to enter New Zealand due to a past criminal conviction for violence. The Karma Chameleon singer was sentenced to a prison term for false imprisonment and attacking a male escort with a chain in 2007. He also has a history of drug offences and of falsely reporting a burglary. He was been denied entry into the USA in 2008 but was admitted in 2014. An Immigration NZ official says if anyone has ever been excluded from another country they will be ineligible to enter New Zealand unless there are special circumstances. However, the local promoters of the concerts say they are confident there will be no problem with his visa application.
