Three vacancies open up on NZAF Trust Board

Sun 11 Sep 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Three vacancies have appeared on the board of the NZ AIDS Foundation after three members stood down at the end of their current terms. NZAF board members are elected for two year terms, and the terms of three board members expire in November. The board members whose terms are expiring are chair David Friar, Michael Moore who has convened of the board finance committee, and Massimo Giola. All three board members have indicated that they intend to stand again for re-election. However, the positions are contestable and nominations for NZAF members wishing to stand can be received until Wednesday 28 September. Trust Board secretary Virginia Cattell says the Board wants to encourage “qualified and enthusiastic candidates to stand for election to these positions.” She says participating on the Trust Board is demanding, “but is an outstanding way to serve both NZAF and the communities affected by HIV and AIDS.” Cattell notes that nominees should be aware of the significant amount of time required of any Trust Board member, including a number of full-day Board meetings each year, plus travel, additional meetings and sub-committee time, as required. “We encourage all members to put themselves forward for nomination, including nominees who have knowledge of Māori tikanga, HIV positive nominees (regardless of disclosure status), and nominees who are women, transgendered, Pasifika, African or Asian." Additionally, the board is keen to see the organisation's membership continue to grow “and reflect the diverse range of communities interested in and affected by HIV.” “People seeking to become a member need to agree to support the mission of NZAF and take an active interest in the objectives and activities of the organisation,” Cattell says. The AGM at which an election will be held for the vacancies is scheduled for December 5.
