Darkmatter poet coming to New Zealand

Fri 2 Sep 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Alok Vaid-Menon of trans south asian performance art duo Darkmatter, is coming to New Zealand this October.   Based in New York, Vaid-Menon is a nonbinary transfeminine writer, entertainer, performance artist, and community organiser whose work has been featured on TEDX, MTV, Buzzed and the New York Times. With bold political poetry that breaks gender binaries and pushes boundaries, Vaid-Menon once told The Huffington Post “I think so much of our politics is about resisting categorisation and I feel like if we say we’re just poets or we’re just comedians or whatever that’s kind of restrictive. “For me, I think we’re doing fashion, we’re doing comedy, political speeches, public speaking, we’re doing poetry, oral tradition, history telling. I think of it more as kind of a collage but I think the best word that we have to describe what we’re doing is performance art.” Dates and venues are yet to be announced. Check out Vaid-Menon performing below.
