The sun is shining in Queenstown today and the final preparations are underway for Gay Ski Week QT - we chat to organiser Sally Whitewoods about what to expect in the week ahead. Photo: Mister10 Saturday night’s opening party has sold out, with limited door sales available, but make sure you head along if you can, Sally says it’s when you make the best of friends that you’ll know doubt hang out with for the rest of the week. There’s a full lineup throughout the week with a boat party, cabaret night, onesie day and speed dating all in the mix. If you’re worried whether or not it’s your scene, there’s a range of ages at the events, the biggest group is in their mid-twenties however age is just a number and everyone is catered for at Gay Ski Week QT. This year, for the first time ever, there’s a drag race on the Remarkables ski field, so if you see yourself as having a bit of star-potential, you better prepare your wig and lashes, this one is going to be a race to remember, “It’s looking to be an insanely fun day”, says Sally. Pre-register or register on the day between 9am-10am, those taking part will need to be an intermediate skier as the race will take place on a blue run. Gay Ski Week's Sally Whitewoods with some of the guys at GSWQT 14 Sally says the week will be a lot of fun and that “everybody gets along with everybody, it doesn’t matter which part of the spectrum you are coming from, everyone gets on with everyone and that’s our biggest strength.” According to the weather reports - if you’d rely on those of course - there may even be some fresh snow on Sunday so no doubt you’ll be in for a treat on the first full day of the week. Make sure you’re ready to go from Saturday, Gay Ski Week is set to be the winter party of the year, and of course the snow is “looking really good”. GayNZ.com Daily News staff - 25th August 2016
