Puāwai Festival back again for World AIDS Day

Fri 19 Aug 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

This World AIDS Day the Puāwai Festival will once again help to reduce the stigma of HIV through performance, laughter and song.   The Auckland based festival Puāwai, meaning ‘to bloom’. is presented by members of the Te Pou Theatre - a space based on the kaupapa Māori fundamentals of aroha, manaakitanga and whānau - together with the HIV-positive community. The festival is presented in association with Body Positive and Positive Women. Last year the festival featured prominent performers including comedian Eli Mathewson and the all-map queer cast of the Okareka Dance Company. Body Positive are currently calling for anyone who would like to be involved in this year’s festival to contact them on 09 309 3989.
