IOC condemns writer who tried to 'out' athletes

Tue 16 Aug 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

The writer who attempted to out gay Olympians in Rio, and who posted descriptions of a number of athletes in an online article, has left Rio.   The International Olympic Committee has condemned the straight, married writer’s article in which he writes about using Grindr to lure gay athletes in the hopes to out them. “This kind of reporting is simply unacceptable”, an IOC spokesperson told OutSports. "We understand the organisation [The Daily Beast] concerned recalled the journalist after complaints and withdrew the story.” An online petition has surfaced calling for the IOC to revoke both writer Nico Hines and The Daily Beast’s press credentials following the controversial story.
