Community out in force at Family’s 11th birthday

Mon 15 Aug 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Family’s birthday spectacular was a fabulous night of big personalities, dancing and drag - celebrating “keeping Krd the gayest road for eleven years”.   The who’s-who of Auckland’s LGBTI scene hit Family Bar last night to celebrate the special occasion, familiar faces such as Steven Oates, Campbell Orr and Karen Richie were among the crowd and of course Wayne Clark, Grady Elliot and the hostess who manages to out-do herself every time, Miss Ribena. The Politicians came out to support the community, with Labour leader Andrew Little making an appearance alongside Jacinda Ardern and Rainbow Labour MP Louisa Wall. Representing the Green Party, Rainbow MP Jan Logie was also in attendance to show her support. With 17 drag shows throughout the night, Mika was among the first to take the stage and walked out into the crowd during his performance to give his love to Zakk d'Larte who was recently attacked at a train station when making his way home at night. With the music pumping and the community out in full force to celebrate, the party went well into the night.
