Rower Manson out of Rio gold contention

Wed 10 Aug 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The race for Olympic gold at Rio ended overnight for gay rower Robbie Manson after he and crewmate Chris Harris finished fourth in the semi-final of the mens' double sculls. Considered good gold medal contenders after an extremely good 2016 competitive season, the pair made a slow start after the race had to be aborted due to a technical fault and then re-started. They never recovered and were convincingly beaten to the finish line by teams from Croatia, Norway and Great Britain. The fourth placing took them out of contention for the 'A' final for which Olympic medals are at stake and instead they will race in the 'B' final tomorrow night.
