Ana Brnabic The deeply conservative eastern european nation of Serbia now has its first openly glbti cabinet minister after the prime Minister appointed businesswoman Ana Brnabic as Minister for Public Administration. Homophobia is widespread in Serbia with 80% of the population being Orthodox Christians. 150 people were injured when hard-line nationalists attacked a gay pride parade in Belgrade in 2010, prompting the government to ban the parade for three years. Homosexuality is no longer criminalised in Serbia. There is no recognition of same-sex relationships and the country's constitution bans same-sex marriages. “Her personal choices do not interest me, she is welcome in the Serbian government,” Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said when asked about Brnabic’s sexuality. “I told her that what interests me is the work you can do.”
