Matheson's re-appointment to AKL Pride questioned

Mon 8 Aug 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Concerns have been raised regarding the appointment of trans activist and educator Lexie Matheson to the Auckland Pride Festival Board after she is said to have previously posted “racist, inappropriate and unforgiving statements” publicly on Facebook about a member of the Auckland Pride Board.   Phylesha Brown-Acton says this screenshot was sent to her during her time on the Auckland Pride Board. During an in-depth interview, community leader and advocate Phylesha Brown-Acton says Matheson, who has recently been re-appointed to the Auckland Pride Festival Board, posted the following comments on Facebook during the time Brown-Acton was serving on the Board and believes they make a reference to her. “Me too, [name] Gutless. And the transwoman of colour on the board? What’s her agenda? Oh, that’s right. She’ll do whatever gets her the best deal.” “Yes, [name], my community has been cast adrift and the idea that there’s a transwoman on that board makes me want to vomit!” She says the queer and trans communities need to ask what the process of Matheson’s re-appointment has been.
