Donations are mounting for Wellington gay bar operators Scotty and Mal whose home was badly damaged by fire on Friday evening. Scotty (r) and Mal The fire, believed to be have started by a bedroom heater, destroyed two bedrooms and a hallway, and the rest of the house is extensively smoke-damaged. The house was insured and the pair are now staying in the home of friends who are overseas. A Give A Little page has attracted just over $2,000 and a collection was held at a Saturday night party for HIV-positive people in the capital. The bar owners have been long-time supporters of HIV initiatives in the city including providing premises for meetings of positive people. A large sympathy card signed by those at the party acknowledges that support.
