In choppy conditions which have seen at least one rowing crew tipped into the waters of the Rio de Janiero Olympic rowing course, gay NZ rower Robbie Manson is through to the semi-finals. Robbie Manson (rear and Chris Harris. Manson and rowing partner Chris Harris have placed first in their heat of the men's double sculls which sees them move forward to the semi-finals. A number of competitors have come close to sinking during the first day of rowing, leading some, including NZ rower Mahi Drysdale, to question why the poor conditions did not prompt organisers to delay racing.
