Tanzania bans lube to stamp out homosexuality

Fri 29 Jul 2016 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

The government of Tanzania has banned the importation of sexual lubricants in a bid to stamp out homosexuality. Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu says lubricant encourages homosexuality, which is against the law in the east African Commonwealth country and can be punished by life imprisonment. Lubricant is considered by all reputable sexual health organisations to be an important accompaniment to condoms to help ensure that chances of HIV transmission are reduced to near-zero. 23% of Tanzania's men who have sex with men have HIV.
