Wed 27 Jul 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A Facebook page emerged on Monday, claiming to be the rainbow chapter of New Zealand gang, The Mongrel Mob.   The photoshopped photo was orginally a photo of a man with a Pac-Man T-Shirt at 2011 NYC Gay Pride Parade The page, which appears to be satire, was originally called ‘Mongrel Mob Rainbow Chapter’ and has since been changed to ‘The Rainbow Chapter’. It rapidly gained popularity after a photoshopped photo of a young gay guy wearing a Mongrel Mob patch t-shirt was shared. The caption with the photo reads “Hi My name is Carltonio, I am one of the admins and am so pleased to invite you to our page. I want all our homosexual brothers and sisters to share your experiences of being Gay and in The Mongrel Mob. I joined because someone said "Gang" and I bet you know exactly what I thought immediately after that. Suffice to say I signed up that same day and never looked back since.” The photo now has nearly 2500 shares and over 3000 people have commented on it. Many of the commenters who claim to be affiliated with The Mongrel Mob and have expressed their anger that the page has been created, with some threatening the page admins. Others commenters - both those that say they are affiliated with the gang in some way and those that aren’t - say they see the humour in the page. The photo that has been used is of a young man at the 2011 New York City Pride Parade who was wearing a Pac Man top. GayNZ.com is yet to received a response from the page creators however, page admins have commented that “In this day and age we need to laugh more and more, especially at ourselves.”
