Rainbow Wellington is considering working towards becoming a smaller organisation to enable it to continue its work. The suggestion that it reduces its capacity was raised at last year’s Annual General Meeting and will be further discussed at this year’s meeting, to be held 7 August. It is hoped that financial members will decide on the best course of action for the organisation to take in view of the past and current difficulties in recruiting new Board members to fill vacant positions. In a discussion paper entitled ‘The Future Direction of RW’, the organisation notes that based on an informal discussion with a number of its members on 10 June, many people want Rainbow Wellington to continue, but accept that its services must be drastically reduced to enable the group to function with a much smaller committee. This includes recognising that it is no longer able to provide professional leadership and representation on many LGBTI issues.
