Rainbow flag flying at Parliament

Wed 6 Jul 2016 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Photo: Jac Lynch A rainbow flag has this morning been raised in the grounds of Parliament to mark the anniversary of the passing of the landmark Homosexual Law Reform legislation on July 9, 1986. This is the first time the glbti pride flag has been formally hoisted on Parliament's grounds. Thirty years ago after at times bitter public and parliamentary debate the nation's MPs voted to remove legislation which had seen gay and bi men imprisoned and medically violated due to their sexuality. Senior Rainbow MP Grand Robertson has this morning that seeing the flag flying on Parliament's grounds is "something very special."
